I'm here in WenJing's house because some unexpected situation arose.
I started a little of my research and decided to take a short nap this afternoon so I turned off my laptop without saving. I was so tired I couldn't care. Then after I had dinner, I thought I should focus and get my work done in 3 hours so that I can sleep early tonight.
But the most unlucky happened! I suddenly did not have internet connection. I turned off and on my laptop a few times then called Meiyan to check if she had connections cause I imagined there might an earthquake and connections were disrupted. But hers was fine so I called my landlord and he was super annoying. He waved me off by saying "I don't know. There will be internet tommorrow, tonight don't have". arghh!!
This made me realise how dependent I am on the internet. I was lost for a moment cause I didn't know what I can do the whole evening without the internet.
And I realise that I should have started on my work earlier! I must really leave my like-to-procrastinate attitude here before I return home.
My week was pretty fine.
Apart from the many many researches and free coffee I get, I went drinking with Meiyan's team on Friday. They are really a nice bunch of guys. Meiyan is so loved in her department! Then we went cosmetic shopping at Myeong Dong! I need to stock up more makeupbefore coming back cause it's almost 3 times cheaper here!! I will surely miss shopping in Korea!!Saturday. Meiyan and I had Shabu Shabu in Myeong Dong, followed by notebooks shopping in Artbox and eyebrow trimming at Lanegie. It was my first close contact with a male stranger! We had a hilarious session cause ofa bee. That guy was actually scared and used me as a shield!
Then we met the other interns and had an expensive Indian dinner in Haehwa. I think with that amount I can eat 6 or 8 plates of naan in Singapore.My second trip to the DVD bang too. Watched 칭구 but I dont really understand the end part.Sunday.Tired and unlucky day.

Taking a break from work. I am so sleepy. Just ended my first group meeting with the other interns. There are 13 of us from5 different countries in the group. Luckily Meiyan and I are assigned together again. At least there is someone who knows my temperament around. We have practically 3 weeks to work on it andI'm going to be smarmed with countless researches. This is going to be a month of challenges and discipline. a draining one as well.On another note, I'm glad I got most of my bids. Waiting for the last 0.5cu. I can't wait to move on to the next phase of my life.

Day 3 of work
I got to know a little more in-depth about my department - Biz 마케텅본부ICT사업팀. In english, I'm in the ICT (Information and communcation technology)Business marketing team. I have spoken to some of my colleagues and found some interesting part in the work they do. As this is a new department, each of them got to handle their projects from the start which is generating ideas/solutions to administrative processes and to the execution all on their own. To complete a project, they got to met up with 24 other teams to get all the financing, legal etc parts done. Luckily I'm only required to assist in a project.I finally got my individual project assignment after surfing the net aimlessly for 2 days. It's not that simple cause I'm not the IT kind of person and I can't seem to find any interest in it. There're a lot of readings but my mentor, Woody is quite nice. He supplied me with alot of reseach papers which I have to summarise for him. I'm going to the library to get books on wirless network now. Yes, SKT library. The building is this huge!!!

Last week was so fulfilling. I had orientations running from Monday to Friday. Went to school on Saturday to pick up some documents followed by shopping in Bupyeong with Fuyan. Then on Sunday, Xinyu, Fuyan, Jihun and I went to Shindo Island where Full House was filmed. Really appreaciate Jihun for chauffeuring us around cause it would be so invonvenient for us to travel to Sammok Habour, take a 10mins ferry and then drive another 20mins or so to the site.
One good thing about staying in Korea is that I'm able to leave the bustling city temporarily to enjoy the calmness and quietness of the sand and sea during the weekends.
Let me go a little in detail on my orientation cause I kinda like the programs that were structured. And we kept eating!
SK Group Orientation for Global Interns
Day 1
7.30am: Gathered at Seoul National Station
9am: Reached SK Academy and had a welcome speech, followed by more presentations on SK Group and SKMS (SK Management System).
The facilitator passed down the list of group members. Meiyan and I were really exhilarated when we saw our names togther.
12pm: Lunch - Fried fish which I didnt really like.
13.3opm: We spilt into smaller groups for team building activities.
3pm: In out team of 20, we had to draw some pictures and used it to do a little self-introduction. Then we further divided oursleves into groups of 5 for the SKMS workshop. So there was Justin, American-Korean, Diland Khurshid from Uzbekistan, Meiyan and I. The program was similar to SMU's classroom style where we had discussions and did 2 short presenations within a span of 2 hours. Thank goodness SMU trained us well.
6pm: Chinese dinner. was okay.
7pm: Day ended. Meiyan and I showered and went to bed at 7.30pm.The funny thing was we both woke up at 12.30am,unable to continue our slumber and were feeling hungry. We wanted to go out and get something to eat but the security guard didn't allow us to. So we just lazed on our beds and I think I fell asleep again at 3.
Day 2
7am: Loudly awakened.
8am: American breakfast was quite a spread. Salad, eggs, hotdogs, french toast, cream soup. I love cereals in the morning.
9am: Body & Mind training. Somewhat like yoga, we did a bit of stretching, meditating and massaging. I was laughing away though.
11am: Cookies break and more talks on Strategy. The presenter, SK's vice president I think, is really charismatic! He can speak 5 languages prefectly!
12.30pm: Korean lunch. was okay.
2pm: Special talk by CEO of Harley-Davidson, Korea. Another great speaker.
Fruits break.
4.30pm: Got on the bus to Incheon for Baseball competition, SK Wyverns against Samsung's Tigers. We lost though. I was chatting with Jia Ying throughout the 4 hours. I don't know why people can sit there for so long. Dinner was fab! We had popeye's burger and 2 piece chicken.
Day 3
5.30: Morning call. I had the same breakfast, I guess I'll never get sick of cereals.
7am: Set off to Chonju for Indeung Mountain.
9am: Reached the mountain. We watched a clip on the late chairman's contribution to the environment. You know, SK actually bought the mountain. They are this rich! Started our arduous 4 hours walk under the scorching sun and mozzies-filled forest.
11.25am: Reach our destination, the observatory.
12pm: Body & Mind training again before we had lunch. Lunch was good though. Japanese lunchbox.
1.30pm: Left for Seoul National.
End of my very intensive training program.
2nd Orientation with SK Telecom
Day 1
8.30am: Reached SKT-Tower. We spilt into teams. Luckily Meiyan was assigned with me again. Our team, Sky Eagles comprises 8 members - Oleg from Kazakhstan, Son from Vietnam, Ying Jie and Xuance from China, Wen Jing from Shanghai, KK from Indonesia, Meiyan and I.
9.30am: Talk on SKT and their Global Biz.
11.30pm: Lunch at T-Patio. Side dishes here is a wide spread!
After that, we moved to Bundang for SKT showroom tour. The guides are really hot! I don't really know the technical terms but I saw the amazingly wide screens where graphs, maps, GPS thingy etc were displayed. Anyway, this big screen thingy shows real time tracking of the systems and network and data I think.
4.30pm: We left for FMI (Future Management Institute). The place is just like another resort. There's a soccer field, bowling alley, suana, KTV, squash and pool room.
7pm: Dinner was sumptous! We had BBQ beef and sausages, Hite, seafood soup and lots of side dishes. The best part was there was someone grilling and serving us.
8.30pm: Started working on our mini team project - Advert using only a mobile phone to take video.
11pm:Wached TV, chit chat with Wen Jing and off to bed.
Day 2
8am: Korean breakfast was bad. I never like having rice in the morning.
8.30am: Presentation on the video we did. We had fun although we didn't win.
9.30am: More talks on SK MNO Biz and C&I Biz.
12pm: Lunch. I didn't like the fish.
1pm: Seminar on Understanding Korea and Korean Culture. We could choose between that and Business etiquette but I figured we had FT and that's enough. The presenter was good, totally captured my attention despite my lack of sleep.
3pm: Talk about working in SKT. Interns have quite a bit of benefits. We have access to the gym and clinic. Meals are provided for and we could dress casually! It's a bit upsetting though cause I already spent so much money on working clothes. I shouldn't have hurried on shopping!
4pm: More talks on security in SKT.
5pm: Presentation on Intranet and the likes.
5.40pm: Collected out laptops and headed to the bus.
Meiyan, Oleg and I had Ding Tai Feng for dinner. How I miss proper chinese food. Then met up with Nathan for drinks.

Thanks to Ji Hun and Ji Su, I've finally moved to Sinchon where I'll reside for the next 6 weeks!Work will not start until Thursday cause we've an orientation camp in Yongin City. It's nice to know that SK provides proper training to interns but I hate camps!! Moreover, we'll have to go mountain climbing on Wednesday morning!! I hope it rains and the whole thing is call off.I'm going to spend my last day of rest shopping at Myeong Dong and then dinner and drinks with Hyung Sik.still praying hard..

Quick bites
I had a short getaway at Dangjin last Sunday. Ji Hun took us to his cottage which is situated near the beach. I'll upload pictures soon.After going through so much trouble during the application process, I just got my VISA approved so I can officially be employed here! It's gonna be shopping time for Meiyan and me on Thursday!!I screwed up mods transfer. I hope Dylan will bring me good news soon. I cannot imagine doing more Econs mod when I return.
